Welcome

Welcome! Croeso! Bienvenue! Wilkommen! And there my multi-lingual capabilities end. ;-)

Here's my blog (I like to state the obvious!).  I'm currently a mum of one with one on the way.  In a previous life I was an Ecologist specialising in bats (yes, those furry winged critters) with an additional interest in other mammals (particularly otters and badgers) and whatever other wildlife came my way. For a while I worked for Consultancies, then a Wildlife Trust and a local authority before going self-employed but I found that attempting to combine work with motherhood while my husband worked all the hours under the sun  was killing us.  It wasn't the life we wanted, it wasn't how it was meant to be.  So we stopped - I quit self-employment, husband dropped down a level in work and halved his hours and we began to breathe.

We stepped off the merry-go-round.  I shouted "Somebody stop the planet I want to get off!" and, in a way, it happened.  We're still adapting, it's a learning curve and it's only been a few months (and we're officially broke!) -  but (and it's a big but!) we feel like a family once more and we're happy.

Part of my job in that previous life (a big part) was writing reports on the work I did for various people who needed to know about that kind of thing.  Reports that were interesting the first time I wrote them but over time became repetitive and a little tedious.  I used to find writing a pleasure but that was less and less the case.  Now I don't have to write I'm planning on re-learning the joy of it - so that's what this is.

I plan to jot down recipes, or bits of poetry, or waffle about family life and the joys (and sometimes not so much) of parenting.  I hope to re-learn the pleasure I used to find in the natural world, and write about that -sadly, it went the same way as my pleasure in writing once it became an exercise in ticking the right boxes.  Regardless, I'll just try and write. :-)

And I've called the blog 'The Village Green Preservation Society' because I happen to live on the corner of a village green, in a small Welsh village...........I also happen to like the song (and Hot Fuzz, which used the song, is a favourite film of mine).

*note*
I know the original song is by The Kinks, and that's also the one used in Hot Fuzz.  I really like that version.  I also like this version.  I think they're equally good.  However, I've never seen 'Jam and Jerusalem' and although I've previously given a talk on bats to a  local WI group I very much doubt village life will cause me to join them myself! ;-)
